Art Materials

Shirley uses only Professional grade oil paints primarily, Winsor & Newton and Rembrandt brands.

Winsor & Newton oil colours have been used by art masters through the ages, and are still loved by contemporary oil painting talents. They use only the purest of pigments in the manufacture of its Professional Artists' Oil Color line, ensuring the cleanest, brightest colors.

A few of the oil colours Shirley uses are in the Rembrandt brand who's pigments are ground to extreme fineness in a binder consisting of the purest linseed or safflower seed oil, resulting in an oil paint whose texture is exceptionally smooth, creamy, and even.

By using these two time tested, archival brands; Shirley is able to produce the best color mixtures for your commissioned portrait.

You'll find a variety of brushes in Shirley's studio, but her favorite are her Rosemary brushes out of England. They are hand made and offer a painting experience like no other. She would tell you that the spring and response to the linen is like spreading butter on bread.

And finally, but equally important are the foundations used for your commission. Shirley uses primarily Belgium Linen but might occasionally use Italian linen. Both of these linen types offer a smooth portrait grade surface that provides a nice slight brush drag and texture with the end result a true portrait treasure that will be cherished for generations.

Should you decide to add a frame to your commission, Shirley will purchase the custom frame from a nationally known gallery and museum supplier at her wholesale savings and pass those savings on to you, making your commission a completed work ready for hanging upon arrival.
